As the Lead Product Designer for the Motorsport.com mobile application, I was responsible for creating an engaging, user-centric experience that catered to motorsport fans around the world. My role involved leading the UI/UX design, conducting comprehensive testing and iterations, and laying the foundation for scaling the design principles into the Autosport.com mobile application.
UI/UX Design
I led the end-to-end design of the Motorsport.com mobile application, focusing on creating an interface that was visually appealing, intuitive, and tailored to a passionate motorsport audience. The challenge was to deliver real-time news, race updates, and multimedia content in a way that was easy to navigate, while maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic.
My design approach was anchored on user research and feedback from existing Motorsport.com users, ensuring that the app addressed their needs and expectations. I simplified the content hierarchy to allow users to quickly access the most relevant news, live race standings, and videos with minimal friction. The design also included personalized elements, such as favorite drivers or series, ensuring users received a customized experience.
Testing & Iterations
Throughout the project, I led multiple rounds of user testing and A/B testing, which informed iterative improvements to the design and functionality. The testing sessions helped uncover pain points in navigation, discoverability, and content engagement, which were promptly addressed in each iteration.
Based on user feedback, I implemented changes such as refining the navigation structure to prioritize live race coverage and adding quick-access features like push notifications for breaking news and race updates. Each iteration was carefully evaluated through user analytics and heatmaps, which guided the continuous optimization of the app’s performance and usability.
Scaling to Autosport.com Mobile Application
Building on the success of the Motorsport.com app, I applied the same principles and learnings to the design of the Autosport.com mobile application. As part of this process, I adapted the Motorsport.com design framework to suit the specific content needs of the Autosport audience, ensuring seamless scalability while keeping the app's unique brand identity intact.
Key design elements such as the modular UI components, interactive features, and content prioritization strategies were reused and optimized for the Autosport.com app. This cross-application synergy allowed us to maintain a consistent user experience across both platforms while catering to the distinct audience preferences of each brand.
Outcome
The Motorsport.com mobile application was launched to positive user feedback, with improved engagement rates, higher session durations, and increased retention. The design was praised for its ease of use, clean layout, and ability to deliver relevant content in a timely manner. The success of this project laid the groundwork for the Autosport.com mobile app, which further extended our reach into the motorsport community. My work contributed to establishing both applications as go-to platforms for motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.
